VirtualBox is a community effort backed by a dedicated company: everyone is encouraged to contribute while Oracle ensures the product always meets professional quality criteria. Virtual PC (Windows Virtual PC in Windows 7, also Microsoft Virtual PC) is a powerful software virtualization solution that allows you to run multiple PC-based operating systems simultaneously on one workstation, providing a safety net to maintain compatibility with legacy applications while you migrate to a new operating system. VirtualBox is being actively developed with frequent releases and has an ever growing list of features, supported guest operating systems and platforms it runs on. It does work for Windows 8.x as well, but you need some sort of a Visual Studio application to get Virtual PC 2007 working fully on Windows 8 and 8.1. Virtual PC 2007 can be used on Windows XP and Windows Vista, but also can be used on Windows 7. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, Macintosh, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x and 4.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, and OpenBSD. Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 does not work on Windows 11, because of Windows 11 being newer. See " About VirtualBox" for an introduction. Further information (A) Hyper-V can coexist with Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 on the same physical computer. I run XP, Ubuntu, PC-BSD, Slax, and Mandriva all at the same time with zero problems. 7) Reboot to load the newer vmm.sys: you can finally use Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 on Windows 8 64-bit To illustrate, heres a screenshot with two guest systems (MS-DOS and Windows 95) both running inside Virtual PC on a Windows 8 host.
